How to use the materials in the library

Open Shelf Collection
(Yokohama Library; B1F, 1F, 2F, 3F Minato Mirai Library; 2F, 3F)

Our libraries have a large selection of books and journals. You can take a look these materials freely and use at the any reading rooms. Please return the materials at the return carts placed on each floor after using.

Stacks materials
(Yokohama Library, basement second floor, Building 23)

Books, journal and newspaper etc. are stored in the stacks. Bring a printout of the OPAC screen or the application form on which you filled out the necessary information to the circulation desk. Our staff will bring the requested materials to you. Even you can use storage. It is able to enter to the stack and use the materials. Follow the storage procedures on the circulation desk on the first floor. (Need to show ID card)

Rule of storage procedures
  • * You can only carry valuables to the stacks. Please leave your baggage to the locker.
  • * The stacks will be closed before 30 minutes the library closing.
  • * The library staff need to accompany with you when you are visiting building 23.
How to use University Master’s theses and doctoral dissertations

Prior application is required to use Master’s Thesis and Doctoral dissertations. Please directly contact us using the contact information below.

Master’s theses are available to use only regular students and faculties of Kanagawa University.

Please fill out the application when you would like to browse master’s theses or doctoral dissertations at the reference counter (2F Yokohama campus). To fill in this application, you need the following information;(Title, published year, material type, author, name of subject professor).(Browser’s information; ID No., name, affiliation, etc…). Master theses and doctoral dissertations are may not be taken out of the library, only use in the library. As a general rule, copying of those materials require the consent of the copyright holder. Library will search for a right holder and negotiate for permission to use for your work, if the master’s theses or doctoral dissertation is not permitted to copy.

Borrowing

Present your ID card and the book you wish to check out at the circulation desk. Please refer the following table. It shows the maximum items and loan period.

  • * We offer long-term loan during the summer, winter and spring holidays. (Only for the current students of Kanagawa University.)
  • * One-night-loan service… Borrowing service for the material which are use within the library. One of the parts of the book which are used only in the library are able to borrow one night. You can borrow one hour before the library is closing and until 2nd term class will be started of the next day. (Although during the regular examination or fixed period before the examination are not available.)
    One night loan service are not available when the next day will be the day of library closed.
    Best-seller books and relating to the how-to books for employment and licenses are available only to Kanagawa University regular students.

Returning

Please return the books to the circulation desk within the due date. Please do not return the book to bookshelf by yourself, put it back to the return carts after using. The penalties will be occurred when you have overdue library materials. The privilege of borrowing, renewals, reservation (including material transfer service between Kanagawa University) will suspended per overdue day. (The longest suspending period is 2 weeks.) Please return books to the book-return box placed at each library, when the library is closed. However, please return the following materials at the circulation desk, do not return to the book-return box;Attached CD to the book, the oversized books which is unable to return to the book-return box(post), one-night-loan materials, the book which is not return within the due date.

* Please come to the circulation desk immediately, when you damaged or lost the library materials. The library staff will check the condition of library material and inform you of the compensation procedure if it is necessary.

Personal Information

The status of books you have placed holds can be viewed from the personal information record. (Need MNS account). You can check the due date of the books you are borrowing, the status of books you have placed holds and the status of ILL service.

Renewal

Loan period can be renewed from the personal information record. (MNS account required)
It can be renewed from the circulation desk. Please show your ID card with the borrowing books. Please refer the below conditions.

  • You can renew the due date of borrowed library material per one time.
  • You have overdue unreturned materials.
  • The book is reserved by other users.

Reservation

You can reserve the book from the personal information record in OPAC page if the book you want is currently out of loan or locating at the other campus library. (MNS account required)

You also can make the reservation at the circulation desk. Please bring a printout of the OPAC screen. Although the following materials cannot make the reservation;

  • The reserve button doesn’t appear on OPAC.
  • The material is held by your own campus library and its status is “on the shelve”.
    Ex.) Student who is belonging to Yokohama campus cannot make the reservation to the book which are hold in Yokohama library and its status is “on the shelve”.

As soon as your reservation book is arrived, you will be noticed by e-mail (registered at MNS). The status of books you made a reservation can be viewed from your own usage status page. (MNS account required). Please remember that if you do not borrow the book within a week, your request will be automatically canceled and the books goes to next people if it has reserved or return to the original place. Please remember that you cannot expand the reserve period. Present your ID card at the calculation desk, when you picking up the books.
