Important Notice

Admissions and classes are basically all conducted in Japanese. There are no faculties in which you could take a degree entirely in English. At this stage, you need Japanese language ability in order to sit the entrance exams.

Overview

This entrance exam is intended for individuals from other countries who wish to enroll at Kanagawa University for the purpose of obtaining a master’s or doctoral degree, individuals sent by a government or other organization, and individuals who wish to be dispatched to Kanagawa University’s graduate school under an academic exchange agreement or the like.

Eligibility Criteria (2018)

[ Master’s Program ]

As a rule, applicants must hold non-Japanese nationality and meet one of requirements 1 to 8 below.

  1. Graduated from an undergraduate program or expects to graduate by March 2018.
  2. Obtained a bachelor’s degree per the provisions of Article 104-4 of the School Education Act or expects to obtain one.
  3. Completed 16 years of formal education in a country other than Japan or expects to complete it.
  4. Completed the equivalent of 16 years of formal education in a country other than Japan by enrolling in classes administered by foreign schools via correspondence education while in Japan or expects to complete it.
  5. Completed a program at a foreign university in Japan corresponding to a program designated separately by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) at an educational facility deemed to be part of the relevant country’s formal education system or expects to complete it by March 2017 (restricted to graduates considered to have completed 16 years of formal education in the relevant country).
  6. Completed a specialized program designated separately by MEXT at a vocational school since the date stipulated by MEXT (the term of study must be 4 years or more; in addition, it must meet the standards stipulated by MEXT).
  7. Designated by MEXT (MEXT Ministerial Announcement No. 5, 1953).
  8. Recognized as possessing academic ability equivalent or superior to a university graduate by Kanagawa University Graduate School.

Notes

  • An advance screening will be conducted for individuals who wish to apply based on eligibility criterion 8 above. For details, consult the “Kanagawa University Graduate School Enrollment Eligibility Screening GuidelinesPDFファイル” (182 KB, written in Japanese only) on the university’s website.
  • An individual who has “obtained a bachelor’s degree per the provisions of Article 104-4 of the School Education Act” refers to an individual who has been granted a bachelor’s degree by the National Institution for Academic Degrees and Quality Enhancement of Higher Education.

Eligibility Criteria (2018)

[ Doctoral Program ]

As a rule, applicants must hold non-Japanese nationality and meet one of requirements 1 to 6 below.

  1. Possesses a master’s degree or professional degree or expects to obtain one by March 2018.
  2. Possesses a foreign degree that is equivalent or superior to a master’s degree or professional degree or expects to obtain one.
  3. Received a degree corresponding to a master’s degree or professional degree by enrolling in courses administered by a foreign school via correspondence education while in Japan or expects to receive one.
  4. Completed a program at a foreign graduate school in Japan corresponding to a program designated separately by MEXT at an educational facility deemed to be part of the relevant country’s formal education system and received a degree corresponding to a master’s degree or professional degree or expects to receive one.
  5. Designated by MEXT (MEXT Ministerial Announcement No. 118, 1989)
  6. Recognized as possessing academic ability equivalent or superior to an individual possessing a master’s degree or professional degree by Kanagawa University Graduate School.
